A SSH connnection isn't bullet proof. Isn't that what the autossh package and
backup file checksums are for?
Note that I think I noticed some ssh patches recently that would make autossh
also work for tunnels using ssh keepalives like it does for all the other ssh
connections. Until that lands on stable then if needed for tunnels then you can
probably use autossh's inetd echo server suggestion in it's man page.
