It appears you have an ISA Sound Blaster 16 of some sort. IIRC early SB cards were unable to handle 48 kHz sample rates and would quietly choke on them. Try running aucat as: # AUCAT_DEBUG=4 SIO_DEBUG=4 aucat -i ./sound.wav ...and see if it chokes on after "trying pars = 48000/16/6". -- Troy
