Are you talking about (I)nstall or (U)pgrade?
Upgrade doesn't issue any destructive fdisk/disklabel/newfs commands,
so there is no way to "wipe [one's] softraid setup". Here's what
happens if you just hit RETURN:
...

sd0 is not a valid root disk.
Available disks are: sd0 sd1.
