Flash has never really been supported on Linux with poor video performance. Yes flash has more overhead than just playing a video, but not that much! (A system that runs doom 3 at full can't run semi-HD when a system that can't even run doom 3 can play > full HD in a media player). They are now giving 5 years security updates only to Linux and Android.
