Actually, i kind of liked the snakes. If not the logo itself (or the tagline),

But that only applies to THE GNU gnu, right? Using A gnu (which looks like a
gnu, but is not an obvious copy of THE GNU gnu) should be ok.

We used to vote on the ML when VCS change was done (some people complained
about the process though, IIRC).
