Hi,

My guess is that there is some bug somewhere in the graphics stack
that is triggered, either by the large window size, or by the way
mhwaveedit draws the display (as 1-pixel wide vertical lines), or a
combination of these two.

You could try taking some other program that draws graphics (like the
gimp for example) and resizing that window to the same big size, and
see if that also crashes.

I don't think I can help you much more right now, I'm afraid.
