It seems like X11 forwarding isn't working as expected.  Try running
xterm (or some other simple X11 app).

Once you get a generic X11 program running, try running machinekit and
then report any problems.

Also, report the specific version of the uSD image you started with,
and any updates or changes you made from the initial image.
