If it is the same drive inside,i.e. OEM Pioneer, in the LaCie it should work but you will have to remove it from the case to install inside a MAC. Better to get abare drive for internalinstall. The support for superdrives is internal not external when using Apple software.

You can test it externally with Toast to see if it will work but it must be an Apple recognized drive for use with iDVD etc. inside the Mac

Thanks, the article shows an older tower than mine but the procedure should be similar. Is a Pioneer DVR-106 DVD mechanism sold in say a LaCie enclosure and one from some other outfit the same? i.e. would they behave the same with Apple's Panther DVD driver?

Thanks
