If the disk is wonky then, as you said, "...leave (it) well enough alone". I'd trash the bad disk as it will certainly fail on you in the future (and you don't want that to happen especially when you've got files on it). I've had bad experiences with wonky SuperDisks where it failed to format at one point, formatted successfully the next, but then refused to load a few months later. If your other disks format fine then just stick with those. As a rule of thumb, it's always best to use the original formatting software that came with the drive. It will avoid problems down the road.
