To drag objects at some exact position use the snap-to-grid feature (Draw/Impress also have Snap Guides). To align/distribute multiple objects, select what should be handled in relation to each other and use the function Regina suggested. To select multiple objects, keep shift pressed while clicking other objects (this is standard behavior on any application).
