However, I couldn't find anything outstanding in the log, unfortunately. There seems to be no gaps in some specific places - just very slow IO (or, rather, uniform big gaps between all file operations, which presumably mean slow IO). In IRC, we had some discussion; and found nothing particular that could cause this.
