            Bug ID: 166512
           Summary: EDITING: Warn on multiple spaces (wavy underline,
                    similarly to the spell checker)
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 7.4 all versions
          Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

It often happens that the user inserts multiple spaces between words -- either
by accident (a typing mistake) or because of copying and pasting portions of
text while editing a draft. This then causes the formatted text to look
strange, especially if justification is turned on. As such, many other word
processors (e.g., Microsoft Word) warn the user by showing a coloured wavy
underline (similar to what is produced by the spell checker for mistyped words)
if more than one consecutive space is inserted.

Writer, however, does not check for this type of problem. As per
<https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/how-do-i-get-a-warning-about-double-spacing/37794>,
the only way to enable it is to use the LanguageTool grammar checker service.
But:

  * Data are being sent to an external server (not wanted or allowed in many
contexts, not to mention that an active internet connection is required);
  * LanguageTool supports only a handful of languages (!);
  * A paid ("Premium") subscription is required.

I feel that such a basic functionality as a warning of multiple consecutive
spaces should be available across all languages, and it should work out of the
box. After all, it is not language-specific and should not require any spelling
dictionaries or other extra components to function properly.
