LFS is usable on modern systems.  But the installation on USB stick is not
supported.  Installation on removeable devices has many strange problems, with
both legacy boot and EFI.

For wifi wpa-supplicant is needed in BLFS.  iwd may be a better alternative
since it doesn't require libnl.  But unfortunately iwd doesn't work well with
NetworkManager on my machine.

And for some ADSL or cable modem (without router functionality) ppp and 
rp-pppoe 
(it's even beyond BLFS) may be needed.
