This is increasingly becoming a problem.

Subject: spam in auto-responses

Hello,

For a while now I have been battling with spammers leveraging LetterRip's auto responses to send out spam from a server i manage. In researching the problem, i have come across an archive of this list where this topic is discussed back in May as "Big Issues" [1]. From reading through the archive
i see that multiple people are having the same problem i am having.

I am curious if LetterRip has implemented a fix for this yet or if you are forced to use third party products to clean up the mess? As i saw a mention of using EIMS to filter the messages, but EIMS is an additional purchase....

The LetterRip server i manage has about 30-40 lists on it and is running LR
4.05 (0818). Has this problem been addressed in LR 4.07 (i see "Fixed
problems handling internal bounces and the proper expiration of queue items"
in the release notes; but what does that mean)?

p.s. I also have a seperate list server running GNU's Mailman with a Postfix
backend. A few simple modifications to the configuration file on that
server allowed me to cut the original content out of bounced responses, but
i have been unable to figure out how to do this with LetterRip's
implementation. Does LetterRip have a way for me to disable the inclusion
of the original text in auto-responses?

Most new practices are, as Wolcott Gibbs once wrote (on another subject), "detached from the [historic liturgy] and inflated like little balloons." The young shepherd should learn to spot them--words and actions that at
first glance seem to be freighted with delicious meaning but that soon
burst in air, leaving nothing but a memory of bright sound.
