I first started to take local lessons in 2001 until the teacher retired in
2005 and had had a chat with one of the very young students just as we left.
She mentioned lace sites on the internet and about 6 months after my last
class I ventured to hunt on the computer and came across the yahoo group and
over the first few months read comments about Arachne and hunted that out
and I went through the sign on and reading things keeping a low profile
while I understood how it worked and just enjoying reading. I have made a
few very special friends and had some wonderful help from a good number of
the experienced ladies on the list over a number of years and I thank you
all.
I have been busy in the home in recent times, preparing for appointments,
clearing the decks for decorating which has been almost as bad as moving
home which I hate. So now we are almost back to rights and while rehanging
several of my lace photo framed pieces we noticed how faded the pictures are
so we are going to reprint new ones and rehang again.
I haven't read everyone of the amazing memories of being on arachne, or the
ones about needle lace something I have dipped my toes into and you had
pushed my desire to have another go which was there recently and so last
night I dug out some paperwork Liz sent me back a while and I am going to
attempt my forget me not flower in needle lace rather than the very tatty
creation I was working on in bobbin lace. Blaming artist here not the
tools. Back in the 70s and 80s I really enjoyed embroidery and several
years ago I attempted some of Lins romainian point lace and had a play with
that. This time I think the flower needs to be more delicate so going to
work with needle lace and finer coloured thread and have dug out the book
Daphne recommended I get of Valerie Grimwood as I am a bit of a visual
worker and I am hoping that the book will help and inspire me to make a good
job of this. It has been on the back burner for a while and I have the dome
ready to take it sitting waiting as a memorial to my Mother in Law who died
in 1980, much too young. I can hopefully get relaxed working this while
keeping up to date with news of my Nephews oldest son who has just undergone
a double lung transplant and also my daughter in law needs investigations to
take place on a lump in her leg, (poor lass had treatment for Cancer in one
leg 10 years ago). So life throws us all some challenges, I know many of
you have been through and are going through your own, but I want to create
something beautiful over the coming weeks.
Keep up encouraging us all,
Sue T
Dorset UK, where we might actually get temperatures of more than around 8
deg C no more than 50 deg F (promised around 60F at last)
Liz we have had so much rain I am beginning to go rusty.
I got my first computer in 2002, and daughter Helen Bell introduced me to
Arachne, - so I joined, - and have Never regretted it! It is wonderful to
have
friends all over the world, and the knowledge and help that is out there is
amazing!
Regards from Liz. In damp Melbourne Oz, where we have had the first rain
since
Mid January.
