My third layer of reaction to this, once I thought about it, was that the

My reaction to that, as a member of IOLI, Lace Guild, Lacemakers' Circle and OIDFA, is that every national lace organization welcomes 'foreign' members and that calling the U.S. organization 'international' is very pretentious considering how few of us 'foreign' members there are and considering that there is an international organization called OIDFA. I don't know about the other 'foreign' members of lace organizations feel, but I join them to get the quarterly lace magazines and to attend the occasional annual convention/congress. But in my mind they're all, except OIDFA, national lace organizations.
