KDE Discover screenshots fail with "SSL handshake failed: The certificate has
expired" on Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
Description:
On a fresh install of Kubuntu 26.04 LTS, KDE Discover loads application
metadata but fails to display screenshots/previews.
The terminal output consistently shows:
QQuickImage: SSL handshake failed: The certificate has expired
However:
system time is correct
ca-certificates is current
openssl validates the certificate chain successfully
browsers work correctly
apt HTTPS works correctly
Tested:
Wayland and X11 (QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb)
disabling HTTP/2
reinstalling plasma-discover
reinstalling ca-certificates
clearing Discover/QML caches
Issue persists.
Relevant observations:
openssl s_client -connect apps.kde.org:443 validates successfully
failure appears isolated to Qt/QML image loading inside Discover
