I've also opened a new file and followed your procedure, but again, no crash, neither on 4.6.1 nor the development version. Just a qualification to that. When I accept the 'foo' payee, what happens next depends on the setting of 'Use Enter to move between fields' in settings for Ledger view->Data entry. If this is set, clicking Enter moves the cursor to the Category field and I don't need to tab. If it is not set, clicking Enter accepts the transaction and it needs to be re-opened to continue. So, I'm not sure if things happen differently for you? I also tried your kmy file, but the field names are all mangled so I msy not have followed your steps there either.
