Christopher, I have not been able to perform all tests--this laptop is my main work computer. I hope to be able to do so (with thunderbolt ethernet adapter, etc) over the Christmas break.
In the meanwhile, I need to resolve the boot issue with grub, to more easily be able to switch between kernels. Would installing rEFInd help? Can it be done once grub is in place, replacing grub? When choosing "suspend" from the top-right power menu, the screen goes black and shortly lights up again, showing the screensaver login prompt.
