Dear Mehmet,

running?

Sure:

...I did all that, and at 2025-10-06 02:00 I hit the "Yes" button on the
"Send problem report to developers?" popup.

(There might be an earlier report; when I tried to focus on the popup about
5 minutes
earlier, the popup disappeared, and therefore I ran the apport-collect
again.)

I did that, and after changing back /etc/default/grub
  + GRUB_DEFAULT=0
  - GRUB_DEFAULT="Advanced options for Ubuntu>Ubuntu, with Linux
6.8.0-63-generic"
and sudo update-grub
and rebooting,
and testing (uname -r printed indeed 6.8.0-85-generic)
...the mic does not work with 6.8.0-85-generic

My mic does not work with that kernel (uname -r printed: 6.14.0-33-generic)
either.

I had to switch back to 6.8.0-63-generic, with that particular kernel being
hard-coded in my /etc/default/grub -- I am very nervous about that.

Just out of curiosity: even if 6.14.0-33 had worked, how would I have
changed my machine
(my /etc/default/grub or whatever) so that "the up-to-date default" works
with my mic?
6.14.x sounds like very much ahead of 6.8.x.

Since I am unemployed I have no longer computing support. My laptop is my
only tool
to find a new job. If it stops working, I am f***ed. What would be your
advice?

Many thanks,
Volker
