Hi Derek,

Yeah, its because its all hardware related. fwupdmgr is all about BIOS /
UEFI updates, firmware updates for your camera etc, and because its all
distro agnostic, managed by LVFS (Linux Vendor Firmware Service) from
https://fwupd.org/, its not included in regular system updates.

Its mostly used by hardware manufacturers to install firmware updates to
consumer devices like laptops, desktops etc. For enterprise servers its
still usually done in the iDRAC / ILO interface instead.

Anyway, there's no rush, you can patch whenever it suits you.

Thanks,
Matthew

Title:
UEFI dbx does not appear to do anything

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Like everyone else I have the UEFI dbx updating message at system start (I
should say after a 'Suspended session'. It did not appear when I rebooted the
machine.
I clicked to update the UEFI dbx the first time I saw the message a few days
ago and was waiting for a message or something to show progress or whatever but
nothing came. I did notice that my processor was running at full belt after
running the command 'top'. I had my browser open so closed it. The only other
processes running that I had initiated were to do with desktop environment -
Compiz and Emerald. All other processes were system ones as far as I could make
out.
One oddity in all this was that a partial browser window was stuck on the
desktop. I killed this window with 'xkill'.
The computer sat there humming away at what sounded like full speed. I wished
I had invoked Conky!
So, as it stands I get this message about updating UEFI dbx and nothing
appears to happen. What should I do? How do I stop the message from appearing
if nothing happens when I click the message to supposedly start an update?
  Thanks.
Oh, looking for this in existing bugs proves fruitless. I can't believe
no-one else has not reported this yet. It's in various posts on the Internet.
