It sounds like a kernel issue to me:

[ 4.651068] xe 0000:00:02.0: Your graphics device 7d55 is not officially
supported
               by xe driver in this kernel version. To force Xe probe,
               use xe.force_probe='7d55' and i915.force_probe='!7d55'
               module parameters or CONFIG_DRM_XE_FORCE_PROBE='7d55' and
               CONFIG_DRM_I915_FORCE_PROBE='!7d55' configuration options.

which then causes:

[ 19.119] (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
[    19.119] (EE)
Fatal server error:
[    19.119] (EE) no screens found(EE)

** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => linux-hwe-6.8 (Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: mutter (Ubuntu)
