Since I couldn't figure out how to make it light on the screen again I had to shut it down. I checked the dmesg and kern.log logs but couldn't find anything conclusive in there. Ubuntu's mainline kernel: 2.6.34-999.201005231006 is even weirder: When I boot into it, the only thing I shortly see is "Starting Up..." and then the screen goes blank and stays that way. The fan goes to max and the air coming out becomes really hot. Then since apparently the bootup process is telling me that it can't mount some non-automount partition i press "S" and the boot continues. Out of the blue the login appears. I log in and I see that udevd is turning at 100% CPU.
