Hello Joseph,
Thank you for your reply. I have been told that the computer, an HP Compaq NC6000 - DP894A-ABU with 1Gb of RAM and a Hard Drive showing an "interesting" value of 38.2Gb, may not be physically capable of installing the software. This being down to the manner in which the computer architecture is arranged. I will give your suggestions a try to see if that will remedy the problem. Otherwise I intend to try and locate an earlier distribution of Linux and run from that to see if the earlier software loads correctly. So far it has been an interesting journey. Thank you again for your suggestions. I will let you know the outcome. A few years ago. I am trying to start using Linux but had to put this machine away for some time. Now I have come back to it to find this error. I have attempted to obtain updates and upgrades to no avail. I may try a different version of Linux if this does not work. Admittedly, it is an old portable computer but I did not like the idea of working equipment being sent for scrap or recycling. All the best.
