It never becomes unusable, but it gets jerky and hard to use. If I run 'top', I can watch Xorg CPU usage spike in direct correlation to how much I move the mouse around (and the mouse performance gets worse while I'm doing this). If I wave the mouse pointer around a lot, CPU will reliably hit 100%, and the pointer will be far behind my physical gestures with the mouse (and will continue to move for a while after I stop moving the mouse). CPU climbs back down after I stop moving the mouse. When I first log in, everything is fine. This problem gets worse the longer I stay in the same X Session. I haven't tried logging out back to GDM and logging back in; if you need me to I can try that. Switching between windows / desktops is also increasingly sluggish. This is all on Ubuntu lucid (development branch).
