Finally, I found this line which is necessary to boot my system with SMP and without freezing: modprobe.blacklist=cx88xx uname -a: Linux legolas 3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux /proc/version_signature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-26.41-generic 3.2.19 lsb_release -rd: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release: 12.04 The freeze usually happens at the time when file systems get mounted. If one filesystem needs to be checked, the system sometimes boots up without problems, but not always (seems to be a running condition). I didn't find a way to get more useful log information because the system freezes before files are written to disk and even with "--verbose" and without "quiet splash" kernel options I didn't get better information for this bug report. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
