** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 880240 system doesn't turn off if "sudo halt" is given ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 991997 Wrong comment in /etc/default/halt: Default behavior of "halt" changed to halt only instead of powering off -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/944908 Title: After the command [sudo][halt] PC is still open. Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I installed Ubuntu 11.10 for the first time in Jan-2012. Since the first moment was this problem, every time I used the command: sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo halt The PC does not turn off, instead reaches the Ubuntu logo with the five dots underneath and stays in that state in perpetual. I tried the simple command: sudo halt but still the same problem. This problem is in both terminal window and the virtual console. One curious fact is that this problem was with the command: sudo reboot too in the beginning but not anymore.
