Or is that not a good option for some reason? I found that switching to the Cached IMAP account type solved this problem for me, and I suspect this is a pretty good workaround for most people. I'm afraid I don't have KMail in front of me at the moment, but the process is something like this: create a new email account, and for the type select "cached IMAP".
