My setup is quite similar to the OP’s: I’m in my uni’s WLAN over vpnc. Occasionally it so happens that the VPN connection kicks the bucket. Or I suspend the laptop and later switch it on again, which makes the VPN connection invalid. Now I reinstate the connection, but when I select my uni’s IMAP account, I only get the blueish "downloading folder contents" screen, but no message list. So I decide to restart Kontact, but most times it doesn’t even start again if I don’t kill the kio_imap process(es) beforehand.
