Richard is talking about a different feature here: He is reading the Gettext information to fill a metadata tag which will shows the translation percentage of an application, see http://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/chap-DistroData.html#tag-distro-languages for details on that. Maybe we can make our l10n infrastructure add the new tag automatically, but since this is only really useful for xdg-app / Limba, adding the new tag isn't something urgent at time (although we'll need to add it sooner or later, since it makes finding the l10n information much easier).
