A great starting point is this book: http://flossmanuals.net/kde-guide/

In it, you'll find brief information about the projects inside KDE, how to get started in a project, how to contact the developers and many links to further information.

You'll also find the Techbase (http://techbase.kde.org/) specially useful. There lies the project-specific documentation, and many hints and tips that are broadly applicable to the KDE development.

Hope this helps,

But there's not even a GSOC yet. What about getting to know the

I, Girish Patil, am a 3rd year engineering student from
DA-IICT, Gandhinagar. I would like to know more about the
projects undertaken by the organization as part of GSOC, and
        contribute towards the same.

I have relatively ample experience of development in C, C++
and Java. Furthermore, I have also branched out my interest
towards mobile application development, and published a
couple of apps on the Windows and Android marketplace.

I would be obliged if anyone could me towards the concerned
        personnel, for further communication.

That is precisely why I sent the mail in the first place. I would
like to know about the ongoing projects, so that by the time GSOC
is announced, I have a better understanding about the
    organization's requirements.

Thank you, for all the help Gabriel. I'll get back to you once I'm comfortable enough with the resources you mentioned.
