But there's not even a GSOC yet. What about getting to know the
project, look around for something that you like, improving it, and
when Google releases the GSOC for this year, you already know your way
around and are more easily accepted as a student on it?

I, Girish Patil, am a 3rd year engineering student from DA-IICT,
Gandhinagar. I would like to know more about the projects
undertaken by the organization as part of GSOC, and contribute
towards the same.
I have relatively ample experience of development in C, C++ and
Java. Furthermore, I have also branched out my interest towards
mobile application development, and published a couple of apps on
the Windows and Android marketplace.
I would be obliged if anyone could me towards the concerned
personnel, for further communication.

That is precisely why I sent the mail in the first place. I would like
to know about the ongoing projects, so that by the time GSOC is
announced, I have a better understanding about the organization's
requirements.
