you could use strace, gdb or wireshark to chech what's happening
before the freeze
thanks, i'll do that.
weird things are happening:
after installing everything ktorrent-related i could find (-debuginfo &
-debugsource for ktorrent, libktorrent, libktorrent4), gdb
throws this:
-------------------
Reading symbols from /usr/bin/ktorrent...
warning: the debug information found in
"/usr/lib/debug//usr/bin/ktorrent.debug" does not match
"/usr/bin/ktorrent" (CRC mismatch).
warning: the debug information found in
"/usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/ktorrent.debug" does not match "/usr/bin/ktorrent"
(CRC mismatch).
Missing separate debuginfo for /usr/bin/ktorrent
Try: zypper install -C
"debuginfo(build-id)=9f78b8096d6eb5a88c8182a145235c07318b741d"
(no debugging symbols found)...done.

trying to install the suggested package via zypper gave "no provider..."
next i removed everything *ktorrent* and re-installed it, after which
ktorrent started, but with a blank window (only borders). i repeated this
a couple of times, making sure all packages came from the same repo
(K:D:F), but ktorrent continued starting in a blank window.
meanwhile the computer crashed because of a power outage the UPS didn't
catch, and, voila, ktorrent started ok (cache?). didn't come across the
freezing again, but haven't used it much.
my conclusion is that i managed to mess up some of the relevant packages;
if no others come across similar problems i'm leaving this for now. i can
live with a slightly weird ktorrent, and don't have the time to continue
this at the moment.
if this turns up somewhere else, i can try to help, of course.
