Bug ID: 494886 Summary: After updating to latest Ubuntu in 6.2, system hangs upon reboot and will not progress to login screen Classification: KDE Neon Product: neon Version: unspecified Platform: Neon OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: critical Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org Reporter: bryanschae...@gmail.com CC: carlosdema...@gmail.com, j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY After updating to the latest Ubuntu release when prompted by the popup in Neon, it installed fine, rebooted once, did a few more updates and then rebooted again. After that second reboot, the system would hand just after showing my laptop's logo screen. It then goes to a black screen and hangs there. The issue is something that the latest Ubuntu puts into the GRUP that us messing with some computers. It inserts "splash" into the GRUP and that keeps the computer from being able to boot into Neon. I go in and manually remove "splash" from the GRUP and the system boots fine. Then I go into the GRUP.CFG and edit it there to remove all the instances of "splash," save it, and then the system is fine again... until it does another system update. At that point, it adds "splash" back in and I have to go and edit everything all over again. I have seen this discussed on the subreddit and shared this solution there, and have already had folks tell me this solved their issue as well. Something needs to be done so that "splash" doesn't keep getting put back in or even put in there in the first place. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Update to latest Ubuntu in KDE Neon 6.2 2. Reboot 3. Black Screen OBSERVED RESULT Hangs on black screen and will not allow the computer to boot. EXPECTED RESULT Allows the computer to progress to the login screen for login and operation. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS KDE Plasma Version: 6.2 DE Frameworks Version: 6.6.0 Qt Version: 6.7.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION See my description above about what needs to be done to solve the issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
