If digiKam-7.x worked with the NAS, it must work even better with digiKam-8.x.
We have no other negative feedback with similar problems at the moment.
It is important that you add the digiKam folder as an exception if you are
using an anti-virus program. It takes a long time for the anti-virus
manufacturers to add the digiKam version as "known and OK".

Create a DebugView (Microsoft program) log of the start and the attempt of a
failed action, as described here for Windows:
