Let me see if I understand this.
You added .desktop file shortcuts to apps and put them in a folder, and added a
Folder View widget to your panel and configured it to show that folder, and now
when you open the folder and click on the shortcuts, the app doesn't open and
instead the file opens in a text editor app?
If I have that right, can you try giving the files execute permissions and see
if that helps?
