In my case, this issue started only after serious flickering issues suddenly disappeared; somewhere around where kernel 6.0 showed up. All was great, until this freeze started. See https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31080 and Bug 461688 for my observations. In a nutshell, when the panel froze, it only ever recovered once. While frozen, there are zero responses to mouse events. The new clue for me was that KDEconnect might have been the trigger on last night's freeze. The amount of system activity does not seem to matter: very heavy or very light activity. I think one occurred while the system was idling while I was sleeping; another reason I'm watching KDEconnect -- my dogs going in/out their doggy door causes security system alerts to my phone, then via KDEconnect to the desktop where the notification window (outline only) appeared when the panel froze...
