I don't have any speed-ups, but I am using Alpha Shapes for the first time. I
don't have to save it for the timeline to get messed up. When I render it, some
clips move forward in time, even though they're correct in the editor. Then,
when I save and reload it, a lot of spaces are collapsed. So the timeline is
completely messed up. 

Another clue: There are video only tracks (still images, mostly) and audio
tracks (voiceover) and one grouped pair of audio/video tracks that came in as
an mp4. After saving, the a/v tracks are ungrouped, and the video segments are
shifted forward over any empty space in that track, but the audio track is in
exactly the right place!
