Typically, you run digiKam, and your close it, exiftool instances are closed. If you use Check For New Release, you download installer, and you run Installer, digiKam is closed with qApp->quit(), but exiftool instances still in memory. https://invent.kde.org/graphics/digikam/-/blob/master/core/libs/onlineversion/onlineversiondlg.cpp#L647 Perhaps under Windows, qApp->quit() is not the right way.
