On a Wayland session I ran into similar problems like: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109246 My primary display elements switches to the secondary. --> Panels, widgets and wallpaper are all moved to the secondary (smaller) monitor when the monitor standby was triggered and the monitors did not switch off. One time I also had to reboot the system via SysRq keys.
