That sounds like the natural solution to me. Then scrolling doesn’t need to
know *why* it scrolls right now.

Besides that, I can’t reproduce the problem as described (as I understand it).
If I enable smooth scrolling, there is no history updated when I press e. g.
Arrow Down. Instead, the history is updated when I press Back and Forward, so I
circle between the last two viewports only.
