I find it more likely that the latest changes in kio (see comment#6) fixed it
though, especially as they explicitly mention problems with kdeconnect.
(and I don't see any relevant change in kdeconnect itself)
Older kdeconnect versions were likely not affected as they didn't mark the
class as local yet, this was changed in 20.08.1 (as a fix for bug#425948) which
apparently triggered the problem (in kio).
Anyway, I think this bug report can be closed then.
