This is weird, here the application launches properly, using macOS 10.13.6 too,
and I had report from other users that it works fine for them too.

It could be an issue with the OpenGL support on your computer...
Please try this:

-open the configuration file gcompris-qt.conf with TextEdit (or another simple
text editor of your choice), which is in
/Users/username/Library/Preferences/gcompris/

-replace the line renderer=auto with renderer=software
-save the file, and restart gcompris

This will activate the software-rendering mode, which is not using OpenGL at
all.

I hope this will fix this issue on your computer.

Side note: while checking again, I noticed that actually I didn't sign properly
the latest application (the .dmg was signed but not the .app inside). I just
fixed it and updated a new .dmg . It was probably not the cause of your issue,
but it's still better to have it properly signed...
