It seems like the initial list of favorites is already empty when passed to
portOldFavorites of the KaStatsFavoritesModel.
.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc contains:
[Containments][0][Applets][3][Configuration][General]
favorites=
favoritesPortedToKAstats=true
