Can you try to open an image in Firefox, select "Copy Image" in the context menu and paste into GIMP and Thunderbird? BTW, I now can paste from Spectacle and elsewhere to Thunderbird after enabling "Compose messages in HTML format" under "Account Settings → Composition". > What do you mean with "Klipper's settings" ? Klipper is Plasma's clipboard manager applet, which you'll find in the system tray. Right-clicking on it will offer "Configure Clipboard".
