Hello Julian. Thank you for the great explanation. In Dolphin's General
Settings > Behavior | View I use "Remember properties for each folder". I have
a wide variety of settings for different folders. Some are sorted by name and
others are sorted by date. Some show hidden files, some don't. I even have a
few folders where previews are shown.

To use the solution you described, I plan to follow these steps:

 follow these steps:
1. Click on the hamburger icon in the top bar if you haven't enabled the menu
bar. If you did, click on "View".
2. Select the option "Adjust view properties"
3. Now, you may check off the box "Show previews"
4. Choose apply this setting to all folders & select "Use these view properties
as default"

Given that this dialog includes mandatory settings for sorting and view mode, I
assume that I will lose my existing unique per-folder sorting and view mode
settings.

If my guess is correct, this means that I will either have to go to each folder
(hundreds of them) and turn off previews individually, or I will have to reset
all folders to uniform view properties and then go to each folder individually
to restore my unique per-folder view properties.

After using Dolphin for years, I have invested a fair amount of time in
achieving just the right customized view properties for each of my folders.
This change in the default preview setting looks like it will cost me some
hours of time to get back to where I was, whether I use the proposed steps or
not.

On the other hand, if there is indeed a way to turn off previews but not alter
any of my other unique per-folder view properties, please let me know. Thank
you.
