Well, in Kdenlive-16.12.1-2-x86_64.AppImage this seems sort of fixed:
There are now symbols in all the places where I assume icons should be - those
symbols look kind of minimalistic (just black lines on grey background), but
they are distinguishable and represent their meaning, so for me it's fine they
are not quite as colorful as the (non-missing) icons in the previous version
looked.
So let's call this fixed.
