It looks a lot better for me than it did before on Wayland (I don't use X11), in terms of contrast it looks like it did before. I agree that the saturation is a bit more than before, but if you read the commit this is now configurable and the default value is set to 3. You can change it in ~/.config/kwinrc under [Effect-blur] by adding Saturation=1 to that section.
