SUMMARY
I have an external hard drive that I mount at startup using `/etc/fstab`. When
the drive is plugged in, everything works as expected.
However, when I unplug the drive before starting up the system, it boots to the
log-on screen with no issues (as I have specified the `nofail` flag), but the
KDE Plasma session is corrupted after logging on. I don't see a taskbar, and I
can't right-click on the desktop, autostart apps (apart from Firefox for some
reason) don't start etc. It's worth noting that there are no problems starting
Konsole with the CTRL+T shortcut. After a few minutes, the taskbar appears, and
I can right-click on the desktop. However, running Dolphin results in a few
more minutes of waiting before its window appears. Then, Dolphin lags and
freezes constantly. But after plugging in the drive while this session is
running, many things unfreeze. For example, multiple Dolphin windows that I
wanted to open appear at once.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Mount your drive using the `/etc/fstab` file as shown above.
2. Shut down the device.
3. Unplug the drive and start the device.
4. Log in to the system and observe the described issues.
OBSERVED RESULT
Corrupted KDE Plasma session.
EXPECTED RESULT
Working KDE Plasma session.
