!'m, too, "suffering" under slow heif loading performance (using digikam 8.6.0
under current tumbleweed, i5-6500 with 4 cores, 16GB RAM). When loading a new
heif file, top reports an CPU usage of ~200% for some seconds. Observing that
loading using journalctl -f I see the error message

digikam.dimg.heif: Unknown HEIF color profile type discarded

Might that message indicate some problem w.r.t. performance?

As the original author, my heif photo is taken by a fuji digicam (more precise
the X-H2). The filesize is ~12MB with 7728x4344 pixelsize. The file is loaded
locally from an SSD.
